This is the first book in a series about a family of little people living beside a pā on the coast of Aotearoa in the mid-1800s. When you are small enough to fly around on the back of a pīwakawaka, the bush holds many charms and many dangers.

As more immigrant big people arrive into the same area as the local Māori big people, the world for Hana and all those around her changes rapidly. Written and illustrated by Donovan Bixley, it bridges young readers out of picture books into fiction for ages 6 to 10.
